Carl W. Schreiber

Carl William Schreiber, 74, of Gilbert, AZ, died Saturday, November 25, 2023, after a short illness. A native of Trevose, PA, Carl was born in Abington, PA, on May 1, 1949. He was the son of the late Carl Henry Schreiber and Dorothy Edna Hughes Schreiber. He was married 53 years to Marsha Louise Hillard Schreiber, also of Gilbert, AZ. With degrees from Penn State University and Liberty University, Carl enjoyed a long career in higher education finance administration as a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). This included eight years at Penn State (1971-1979), eight years at Liberty University where he rose to the position of Vice President for Finance and Budget (1979-1987), 23 years as Vice President of Finance and Technology at Biola University (1987-2010), and seven years as Executive Vice President of Finance at Patrick Henry College (2010-2017). He and his wife retired to Gilbert, AZ in 2018. During his career, he had contacts with dignitaries, presidential candidates, well known journalists, and he provided security for these visiting dignitaries. In the 1980s, he was elected to a term as treasurer for Campbell County, VA. His great grandfather Oscar Schreiber had a pattern works business in Philadelphia and was commissioned to create the pattern for the hat of William Penn whose statue is on the top of City Hall in Philadelphia , PA. In 1975, Carl and his family joined six other families to begin a new Bible church in Pennsylvania Furnace, PA. He served as treasurer and worked to establish the 501(c)(3) status for the ministry. The Nittany Bible Church continues to thrive today. Carl enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii, visiting missionary friends in France, family boating excursions on the Colorado River, car trips across the country, motorcycle rides, and RZR fun in the Arizona and Utah deserts. In addition to his wife, Marsha, Carl is survived by two daughters: Amy Jo, married to David Vivona, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, and Jill Ann, married to Rob Bredow, Fairfax, CA; five grandchildren: Abigail Taylor Bredow, Allison Riley Bredow, Gabriella Louise Vivona, Zachary David Vivona, and Joshua Reid Vivona; three sisters: Carol, Sanatoga, PA, Janet, wife of Larry Duncan, Cranberry Township, PA, and Nora, wife of Robert McDonough, Trevose, PA; and five nieces and one nephew. A Celebration of Life will be held at Arizona Community Church, 9325 S. Rural Rd., Tempe, AZ, on January 20 at 10:30 A.M. Interment will take place in Graysville Presbyterian Cemetery, Spruce Creek, PA, at the convenience of family.
