Laura Holland was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 17, 1928 and died at the age of 92 in Winter Haven, FL on July 17, 2021. She was married to William A. Holland Sr. (1906-2002) and lived in Quitman, Georgia from 1975 to 2014. She moved to her daughter's home in Winter Haven, FL for assistive care in 2014. She is survived by her children, grandchildren and cousins. Her siblings have preceded her in death. Her impressive educational experience and vast knowledge formed brilliant careers in nursing care management, teaching, and ministering. She graduated with honors in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League school. She received a nursing degree in 1949 and took on active Army Nurse Corps duty at Tripler Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii during the Korean War. As a veteran, she was an instructor at Blockley, the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing until 1960. She attended one year of law school in 1961 and then returned for many years at the nursing school and hospital in Philadelphia. There were many years of service and training nurses at Archbald Hospital in Thomasville, GA. She earned a Masters of Divinity from the Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary in 1992. As a visting minister, Laura pastored in many Presbyterian churches of southwest Georgia. She was ordained on 1996. She also ministered to patients while in hospice care. Overflowing with compassion for struggling women, she made advocating to women her purpose everywhere and anywhere in the world such as Africa, Bangladesh, and in local prisons. She traveled twice to Bangladesh with a missionary who built schools to spread God's word and to educate. She always cared for and helped her neighbors. She and her contributions are exemplary and will be missed by many. A memorial service with interment of ashes will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the City of Boston Cemetery, 439 W Jefferson Street, Boston, Ga. at 10:00 am.
