Mary Jane Vandegrift (McLarren) - Class Of 1949

Mary Jane Vandegrift (McLarren)

Mary Jane McLarren
Mary Jane Vandegrift Rittenhouse McLarren of Feasterville, passed away peacefully on March 4th. She was 25 days shy of her 90th birthday. While actively raising her four children, she worked in a variety of finance and accounting positions including Sears, Lit Brothers and lastly at Ransome Airlines before retiring. Her faith provided a strong foundation for her life. Mary Jane was an active member of the Scottsville United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. She was an avid history and genealogy buff with specific focus on the Vandegrift family, her hometown (Croydon) and alma mater (Bensalem).
Her love of family, especially grandchildren, along with her many friends permeated Mary Jane's daily life. Whether it be a family get together for a birthday or holiday, lunch with friends or a phone call with someone far from home, all these events provided Mary Jane, Mom, and Nana with pure joy. Planting and managing her vegetable garden in her young adulthood evolved into flower gardening and bird watching. Beware the squirrel who ventured too close to her bird feeders!
Mary Jane is survived by her children: Suzanne Ramspacher, Robert Rittenhouse (Suzanne), Ruth Irwin (Ronald), Melissa Snyder (Kyle), and her grandchildren: Kellianne, Daniel, and Matthew Irwin, and Matthew and Jessica Snyder. She is preceded in death by her beloved husbands John Rittenhouse and Henry McLarren.
Mary Jane's family will hold a private family service early next week. Once friends and family can safely gather, there will be a celebration of her life at Scottsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mary Jane's name to Scottsville United Methodist Church 2400 Brownsville Road Langhorne PA 19053 or Bensalem Historical Society 3211 Knights Road Bensalem PA 19020. www.tomlinsonfh.com
