Beverly Whitney 1951-1960 English & History

Beverly (Schofield) Whitney, 89, wife of the late Arthur B. Whitney, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018 in her residence. Born on September 24, 1928 in Royersford, she was the daughter of the late Clara (Tyson) and Leo Schofield. 

A Class of 1946 graduate of the former Royersford High School, Beverly received her Bachelors of Arts degree in English, French and Social Studies from Ursinus College in 1950. She taught seventh grade English, French and History beginning in 1950 at Bensalem Township High School. In 1954, Beverly was a Fulbright Scholar to France. She taught English, 1-5th Form at Boultham Moor Secondary Modern School in Lincoln City, Lincolnshire, England from 1970-71. Beverly then taught English and Social Studies in the Council Rock School District until 1975. 

Upon retirement from teaching, Beverly turned her love for traveling into employment as a travel agent for "Ask Mr. Foster" Travel Agency in Strawbridges in Philadelphia. In 1978, she opened her own travel agency, OmniTravel, in Bensalem. In the early 90's she moved to the Western Pennsylvania/Altoona area, where she was a substitute teacher and in 1993, returned to Eastern Pennsylvania, working as a library assistant at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School until her final retirement in 1996. 

Beverly had been a member of Church of the Epiphany while in Royersford. During the early 2000's, Beverly was a docent at the Philadelphia Zoo. She enjoyed reading, movies and coloring. She loved her dogs but most importantly, loved time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Whitney is survived by her children: Robert Michael, husband of Catherine Whitney, of Pottsville, Donna G. Whitney, of Lancaster, and Wendy J. Whitney, wife of Charles Naiberk, of Hatboro; sister-in-law: Rosemarie Schofield, of Pottstown; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Dr. Richard Alan Schofield and Wesley Lane Schofield.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at the Cattermole - Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11:00 am. Officiating will be Rev. Richard H. Whitney. Interment will follow in the Fernwood Cemetery, Royersford. Friends will be received from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at the funeral home.
