Capt. Joseph Anthony Canonico (USMC,Ret.)

apt. Joseph Anthony Canonico (USMC, Ret.), 84, of Charleston, South Carolina, formerly of Wellsboro, PA and husband of Judith Ann Horwitz Canonico entered into eternal rest Tuesday, December 20, 2016. His funeral service and burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.

Joseph was born June 11, 1932 in Englewood, New Jersey, son of the late Dominic Canonico and Mary Sokolik Canonico. Joseph was a "Bootstrap" Marine enlisting in 1951 and retiring as Captain in 1979. He was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam. During his 28 years on active duty he obtained his undergraduate degree from Chapman University and an MBA from Pepperdine University. Following retirement, Joseph pursued a career as a Social Worker and retired from Tioga County Human Services in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. During this period, he obtained a Masters in Social Work from Temple University. His career transitioned into a psychotherapist and founded Integrating Social Services. Joseph with his wife relocated very happily to Charleston, South Carolina within the past few years.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Canonico of Daniel Island, SC. He is additionally survived by children from his first marriage to Loretta Brennan Canonico include two daughters, Mary C. Tindle (John) of Monument, CO; Therese C. Mazloom (Aboly) of West Columbia, SC; son, Joseph A. Canonico, Jr. of Monument, CO; and grandson, William D. Fetty of Madison, WI.
