S. Russell Redwitz - Class Of 1949

S. Russell Redwitz

S. Russell Redwitz of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of West Bristol, Pa., passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 26, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was 84.

Russ/Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sally (Kurtz) of Sarasota, Fla.; his daughters, Luanne Redwitz of Sarasota, Fla. and Andrea Lesher (Stephan Lesher) of Hatfield, Pa.; his son, Russ Redwitz (Kathleen Rowles) of W. Bristol, Pa.; and grandchildren, Kobe Lynch of Sarasota, Fla. and Sofia Lesher of Hatfield, Pa.

Russ was preceded in death by his sister, Roberta Bachman of Bensalem.

Russ was born and raised in Bensalem, Pa. and resided in West Bristol, Pa. for 45 years before moving to Sarasota, Fla. Prior to serving in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army in Korea, he was an avid Stearman bi-plane pilot. He loved spending time at Van Zant Airport in Erwinna.

He was known in the Bristol/Bensalem community for his fast pitch softball skills, and later he was well known for his involvement with his kids’ activities, from coaching tee-ball to being an officer of the Truman Band Boosters.

Russ was a quiet presence, but when he would tell a story, he would have everyone in the room laughing. A loving husband, father, Pop Pop and uncle, Russ will be missed greatly.

Friends and family are welcome to celebrate Russ’ life at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 15 at Eddington Presbyterian Church in Bensalem, followed by a reception at Georgine’s in West Bristol.
