Rita M. Baker Obituary

Rita Mary Baker (Ritchie)

Heaven celebrated Rita Mary Baker’s homecoming on June 6, 2026.  Rita, age 72, a longtime resident of

Oakford, and more recently, Churchville, PA finally found peace from the
dementia that clouded her final years. She gradually slipped from our midst
under the care of Affinity Hospice and Arden Courts Memory Care in
Warminster.  Her long goodbye has ended and she has been restored to her
full self. Rita, beloved mother, grandmother, nurse, and friend, was happiest surrounded by those she loved.

Rita, who was born in Philadelphia on August 18, 1953, daughter of John Ritchie Sr. and Rita Ritchie
(Pack) spent her early years in Kensington, before moving to Trevose.
Rita graduated from Bensalem High School and later went to nursing school while
raising her son, Daniel.  Rita was a devoted nurse who spent the majority
of her career at Holy Redeemer Hospital in both the ICU and the Cardiac Cath Lab.

Rita, who learned building and woodworking from her father, always loved a good home improvement or
building project. Rita married Eric Baker Sr. on December 10, 1982 and together
with her father’s help, they refurbished a home out of a former church in Oakford,
where they resided until his death.  Rita, a natural athlete, played
softball in her younger years, spending many seasons with her Irish Rover team
of what turned out to be lifelong friends, coached by her husband, Eric. Rita
and Eric also spent many years league bowling at Bristol Pike Lanes, attending
Eagles games, and spending time at the beach in Atlantic City.

Rita had an adventurous side, and in her younger days, she played guitar, enjoyed archery, rode a
motorcycle, and drove a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda and 1978 “Bandit” Trans
Am.  As time went on, Rita traded softball for cards, still enjoying the
company of her former teammates.  She enjoyed celebrating holidays with
family and friends, playing with her dogs, planning trips and traveling,
crafts, singing in the church choir, working in the children’s ministry,
watching her son play on the church softball team, and baking the best chocolate chip cookies.

Rita had boundless energy for her grandchildren and was often found on the playground, the ball field, at
Sesame Place, or in the backyard playing with the kids.  She enjoyed
hosting sleepovers, attending their sporting events, whether at the ball field,
the dojo, or the gym and their school events like bingo, recitals, ceremonies.
and shows. She is survived by her son Daniel August (Theresa) and her
grandchildren, Timothy and Karis.  She is preceded in death by her
husband, Eric and her parents, John and Rita.

Family and friends are invited to Rita’s Life Celebration at Dunn Givnish Funeral Home, 378 Bellevue
Ave, Langhorne, PA 19047 on Saturday 13, 2026 starting at 10:30am, with a
service at 12:30pm, immediately followed by her burial at Forrest Hills/Shalom
Memorial Park in Huntingdon Valley.

Rita navigated her later years with multiple sclerosis. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name to
the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (msfoucs.org) would be appreciated as they
provided a lot of support and we know she would want to help them continue with
that mission.
