Tameka Leyen Ridout was born on May 25, 1979, at Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Her vibrant personality and unwavering spirit left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Tameka was an angel in the lives of those who knew her, and her sudden departure has created an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who loved her; a remarkable woman whose life was tragically cut short.
Tameka, with her steadfast faith and reverence for God, embodied the essence of selflessness, nurturing, and unwavering loyalty. She stood as a pillar of strength for her friends and family, always ready to provide guidance and support. Her meticulous attention to detail shone through in every aspect of her life, from her personal relationships to her professional endeavors. She strived for perfection, taking immense pride in her work and her reputation.
A strategic thinker and planner, Tameka cherished both her ambitious goals and the simple joys of life. Her passion for fashion was evident in her role as a professional shopper, delighting in finding bargains and sharing gifts with others. Her boundless love and loyalty were most vividly expressed in her roles as a devoted mother and fiancée. She created a nurturing home, filled with grace and devotion.
Tameka's academic achievements were as impressive as her personality. She graduated from Bensalem High School in June 1997 and went on to excel at Temple University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in May 2002. After graduating from Temple, Tameka held various positions in the telecommunications and retail industries.
In February 2007, Tameka became an intern at Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Troop Support in Philadelphia which led her to a fulfilling career as a federal civilian, where she became dedicated to supporting the mission of the America's Warfighter. Tameka's 16-year career at the DLA was distinguished by her role as an accomplished procurement professional, in support of vital military supplies.
Her professional journey was marked by significant accomplishments. Tameka was promoted over the years and received numerous awards for her diligence and commitment to her customers and her team. She was a trusted advisor and mentor to up and coming contracting professionals, sharing her experience and knowledge generously. Tameka served in various acquisition positions at DLA and one of her most recent accomplishments, that she was especially proud of was becoming a Contracting Officer in the Medical Readiness Division, which is the role she held at the time of her untimely passing. Tameka enjoyed her work at DLA and the opportunities that it gave her to have a meaningful impact as a public servant.
Beyond her professional life, Tameka's interests were diverse and enriching. An avid traveler, she enjoyed exploring new destinations on cruises and cherished her annual family trips to Ocean City, Maryland, for the past 30 years. Her culinary skills were showcased in her love for cooking and hosting holiday dinners. She enjoyed attending restaurant week, indulging in fine dining and trying different cuisines.
A true sports enthusiast, she was a passionate fan of the Philadelphia Sixers and Eagles. However, more importantly as a sport's mom her spirit and support for her son Timmy's football
endeavors was unmatched. She often would provide encouragement and post game snacks for the
team.
Tameka's life was also dedicated to giving back and supporting others. She played a significant role in the educational and personal development of her god-children, cousins and nieces, guiding them with wisdom and love. She was in the midst of realizing her dream of launching an event planning business, a venture that promised to showcase her exceptional style, detailed orientation and customer service skills.
Tameka leaves behind a loving family, including her mother Leah Lester; father Raymond Ridout (Yvonne); her partner of over 30 years, Timothy Wilson; son Timothy Wilson Jr. (Timmy); bonus daughter Aliyah Cole, godchildren Erica Hawkins, Samiir, and Samiyah Ali; stepsister Jamila; grandmother Dorothy Kelly; cousin Rah-Isha Potts; close friends Latresa Ali (Samiy), Kishayra Lambert (James), Kenya Sharpe, and Chantay Lynch; along with many other relatives, friends, and co-workers. She was preceded in death by her beloved godson, Naseer Bryant.
Tameka's legacy is one of love, dedication, and inspiration. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the countless ways she enriched our lives. Her memory will be treasured, and her spirit will continue to guide us. Rest in peace, Tameka, your light will forever shine in our hearts.
