In Memory

Mary L Linkchorst 1955-1958

Mary L Linkchorst 1955-1958

Mary Louise Linkchorst, 88, of Haymarket, Va., formerly of Barnesville, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 29, 2021, surrounded by family.

She was born March 24, 1933, in Ashley, to Joseph and Anna Kubic. She grew up in the Mountain Top area.

Mary Louise graduated from Crestwood High School and later Bloomsburg State Teacher's College (now Bloomsburg University) in 1954 with a bachelor's degree in secondary education. She was a cheerleader during her years at Bloomsburg. Eventually, she met and became the cheerleader on the football field for her beloved, Dave, quarterback for the team.

In 1956, she married David R. Linkchorst, her husband of 64 years.

Mary Lou began her teaching career in Bensalem. Later, she moved to Mahanoy City. After many years of raising a family, she returned to the classroom. She was a business teacher at Minersville Area School District and retired in 1993.

Until she moved to Virginia, she was a long time member of St. Richard's Roman Catholic Church, Barnesville, where she was active in parish activities, such as the annual church picnic. She was also a member of Mahanoy City Public Library and Bloomsburg Alumni Association. She enjoyed reading, cross stitch, jigsaw puzzles, bingo and keeping up with family and friends online. Spending time at the beach, in particular the Jersey shore, created lasting memories. Mary Lou loved her time at Bloomsburg and continued to attend alumni events, such as Homecoming Weekend, to share fond memories with people who remained lifelong friends. She and her husband always kept up with the news of Bloomsburg and followed their sports teams and their successes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David; their second child, Douglas; her brother, James; and sister, Dolores.

She is survived by her brother, Joseph Kubic; sister, Joanne Kubic; her children, David (Mary), of Reading, Nancy Skurko (Michael), of Valencia, Joanne Kinder (Stan), of Haymarket, Va., and Richard (Bette), of Glen Mills. She was the proud grandmother to Michael, Jaclyn, Jake and Nick; great-grandmother to Maxwell and Natalie; aunt to nieces and nephews.

At the request of the family, services are private, but a public remembrance may be held in the future. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorial contributions to the education department in her memory may be made to Bloomsburg University Foundation, 50 E. Main St., Fourth Floor, Greenly Center, Bloomsburg, PA 17815 or at giving.bloomu.edu. Please sign the guest book at www.bakerpostfh.com.
