Philip Joseph Baldacchino

CARROLLTOWN — BALDACCHINO – Philip Joseph, 87, Carrolltown, died April 14, 2014. Born Feb. 13, 1927, in Barnesboro. Philip graduated from Barnesboro High School and served in the Navy during World War II. He later earned bachelor's degrees in chemistry and education, master's degrees in science and education, and a Ph.D. in chemistry. Philip was a devoted husband and is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret Baldacchino. Philip's life was dedicated to education by serving in the past as a teacher for numerous years, the curriculum coordinator of education at Cambria Heights and retired as superintendent of Northern Cambria in 1986. Philip was a devout Catholic as an active member of St. Benedict's Church and achieved 4th degree status in the Knights of Columbus 34 years ago. Philip loved to travel with his wife and family throughout the world and was fluent in Italian. His favorite pastime was to spend time with his family. Survived by children, Dena, Lucille, Joseph, Dorothy and Margie; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Because of both his passion for and role modeling of higher education, Philip ensured that all of his children and adult grandchildren attained college degrees. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, followed by a religious service at Paul Henney Memorial Chapel, 5570 Library Road, Bethel Park, Pa., with interment at 3 p.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church Cemetery, Ebensburg.
