Carolyn Rose (Lohr) Zimmerman
"The shadows are lengthening for me. The twilight is here...I bid you farewell"
CAROLYN ROSE (LOHR) ZIMMERMAN lived a life full of music and love. She faded away on March 27, 2019 surrounded by 23 members of her family. Carolyn was born in Central City, PA on July 15, 1929 to Joseph and Hilma (Ohs) Lohr (deceased). She was predeceased by her husband of forty six years, James D. Zimmerman as well as her five sisters; Marian Lyons, Virginia Kirkpatrick, Eleanor Mason, Mildred Wagner, and Joanne Wendt. Kay lived in two houses her entire life, moving from her mother's home to Levittown in 1962. Kay retired from Bensalem Township School District as an administrative assistant after 27 years. Kay was a member of Christ United Methodist Church since 1963. She was in the Middletown Senior Choir, a member of the Red Hat Society and Middletown Senior Citizens and volunteered for many years at the Lower Bucks Free Library. After the death of her husband, she kept busy every day of the week; water aerobics, lunch with the girls, playing dominoes weekly, Tuesday breakfast, and church on Sunday. She enjoyed taking long walks and companionship with her dog, My-Oh. Kay was an avid reader, sometimes staying up late into the night to finish one of her thousands of books. She babysat for her oldest grandchild, Derek, with many fond memories for both. Survived by 3 children: Jeffrey (Linda), Gary (Tina) and Joanne DeFeo (William) and 7 grandchildren: Zak Zimmerman (Ariele), Anita (DeFeo) Quinn (John), Jayson, Justin (Monica), Zina (Zimmerman) Burns (BJ), Nick DeFeo (Megan), Austin Zimmerman (Danielle) and 8 (soon to be 9) Great-grandchildren: Derek, Braeden and Aurora Quinn, Jonathan Zimmerman, Levi, Liana and Logan Burns, Corbin and Rhett Zimmerman. Always giving throughout her life, her body was donated to the Humanity Gifts Registry for anatomical study and research. This independent woman who many of us knew as Kay, "Zip", Grammy and Mom was a hero to us all. Throughout life she unselfishly gave of herself, taking care of family and friends, enriching our lives with her love and guidance until the end. In her final moments lying in her hospital bed, she led us in song singing "Hail! Hail! The Gang's All Here-We laugh, we sing, and live life merrily"... she wanted us to celebrate her life, and not mourn her loss. Carolyn Rose Zimmerman we love you and will miss you greatly.
Memorial Service to be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund Center for the Intrepid, a facility that cares for servicemen and women. www.fallenheroesfund.org/donate
