Walter W. Szymanski, 79, of Wyomissing, formerly of Orwigsburg, Pa. and Goshen, N.J. passed away peacefully with his wife, Joyce by his side on August 17, 2023.
Born on November 11, 1943, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Walter Szymanski Simmons and Thelma Rhodes.
Walter served in the U.S. Army, 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning" during the Vietnam Era.
He was a graduate of the N.J. State Police Academy. Upon graduation he was employed by the Middle Twp. Police Dept. in Cape May Court House, N.J.
Detective Walter Szymanski retired in 1994 and served the Community, State and Country with professionalism and dedication.
In his retirement years he was an avid sports enthusiast. He was a collector of many treasures such as sport cards, classic vinyl records and other memorabilia.
Walter was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Orwigsburg, Pa.
Walter is survived by his wife, Joyce Goerner Szymanski and their daughters: Adriane Peregoodoff, wife of Terrance of Baja, Mexico, Michelle Bates, wife of Cary of Tamaqua, PA and Jeanette Ferrari and Kris Sinclair of Denver, PA. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren along with two sisters: Shirley Taylor, wife of Gregg, Cape May Court House, N.J. and Sandy Gallo, wife of Tony, FL
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather to those who loved him and will truly be missed.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held in the near future in the Veterans section of Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. Grabowski Funeral Home, Schuylkill Haven is entrusted with the service and condolences can be shared at www.grabowskifuneralhome.com.
