HELEN'S OBITUARY
Helen A. (Dwyer) Simmons of Duxbury, MA, passed away peacefully in hospice care at the home of her daughter on Tuesday, May 28th at the age of 98. Helen was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Helen received a diploma from Pierce Business school in 1944 and subsequently worked in payroll. She met the love of her life Keith Simmons on a blind date and they were married in 1946. At the time Keith was in the University of Pennsylvania NROTC program and was commissioned in the Naval Reserves. Helen was a devoted wife and homemaker as they started their family. Helen and Keith moved a number of times during Keith’s naval career and again as Keith was working for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. In 1970 Helen and Keith settled in Duxbury, MA. Helen was a volunteer at Jordan Hospital (now BID Plymouth) for over 40 years. They enjoyed visits from their children and grandchildren, going to Duxbury beach and boating in Duxbury and Plymouth harbors during the summer. Keith retired in 1984 and Helen and Keith enjoyed traveling to Europe, Alaska and Hawaii, as well as yearly winter trips to Boca Grande, FL. Keith passed away in 2013. Helen then moved to the Village at Duxbury where she lived happily for 11 years.
Helen is survived by her three children, daughter Dale Simmons of Pembroke, sons Lee Simmons and his wife Rita of Millersville, PA, and E. Keith Simmons Jr. and his wife Kathy of Olympia, WA, seven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by her sisters Marian Reif and Betty Emmett and her brothers Robert Dwyer and Jim Dwyer.
Visiting hours will be held from 9-9:30am on June 6th at the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 551 Washington St, Rte 53, Hanover, followed by the Funeral Mass, celebrated in the Chapel at Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont St, Rte 3A, Duxbury, at 10am. Burial to follow at the Mayflower Cemetery, Duxbury.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Norwell Visiting Nurse Association (NVNA) and Hospice or a charity of your choice.
