In Memory

Blanche Thomas (Trowbridge) - Class Of 1948

Blanche Thomas (Trowbridge)

Blanche Trowbridge (8/28/1930) walked into the arms of her Savior and Lord on January 15, 2026. She was surrounded by family in her home. She joins her husband, Clarence Sr. and her son Tim. She leaves behind three children, Tom (Kristie) Trowbridge, Clarence Jr. (Nancy) Trowbridge, and Terri (Phil) Linden. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Blanche was born in Philadelphia to Edwin and Matilda Thomas. She loved the Lord from an early age. Her younger days were spent alongside her four siblings serving in her father’s church. As a teen she boarded a bus with only her trombone and one suitcase in hand to attend Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. There she met the love of her life, Clarence. They settled here in Valparaiso in 1956. She worked as a kindergarten teacher and on the factory line at McGill’s. She was an active member of both Liberty Bible Church and Washington Church. She would often later recall her years serving on the Kitchen Committee.

Blanche never missed an opportunity to feed her family. You couldn’t enter her house without her asking if you’d eaten. And even until the end, no child, grandchild, or great grandchild could leave the house without goldfish crackers or a chocolate donut.

Grandchildren and great grandchildren were one of her greatest treasures. She often babysat, and when she did, she never called them naughty but always “good.” She attended countless concerts, performances, graduations, games, and grandparent’s days.

Blanche loved her family and her greatest desire was for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to put their faith in the Lord. She prayed that each of them would know Christ died for their sins and rose from the dead and invited each to be in relationship with him.

Blanche will be greatly missed, but leaves behind a legacy of faith and love.

A Memorial Gathering will be held February 7, 2026 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Washington Evangelical Free Church 3805 LaPorte Ave., Valparaiso, with a Memorial Service beginning at 11:00 AM.
