Florence Reid Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Inc. - Lansdale on Aug. 26, 2024.
Florence A. "Flossy" Reid peacefully departed this life on Sunday, August 25th, 2024, following a brief illness. She leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and a life filled with cherished experiences.
A proud graduate of Bensalem High School, Florence served as head majorette and a featured thespian, where she met her lifelong companion, Gale G. Reid. After high school, Florence was delighted to be hired by Bell Telephone as a service representative in Bristol, where she played a key role in supporting the growth of the new community of Levittown. Their nearly 72 years of marriage were a testament to their shared love and partnership. Together, they pursued various passions, from teaching in the North Penn School District, where Florence served as a Special Education teacher's aide at Oak Park Elementary, to running a successful antique art pottery and out-of-print book business. They enjoyed traveling the region, uncovering treasures at auctions, yard sales, and antique shows. Florence and Gale were also active members of the Stangl and Fulper Art Pottery Collectors Club, where they cultivated their love for fine ceramics and built lasting friendships.
Florence's love for the Philadelphia Phillies began as a young girl attending games at Shibe Park, especially on Ladies Day with her cousin. She also had a lifelong passion for dancing, particularly at the early American Bandstand studio shows. Florence enjoyed traveling, whether camping in tents or cruising the picturesque waterways of Europe. Reading was her quiet refuge, a passion she nurtured throughout her life. In her later years, she expressed her creativity through her work at Brittany Pointe, where she showcased her retail and design talents by selling items in the showcase, raising money for college scholarships dedicated to the server staff at Brittany Pointe. Florence successfully raised many thousands of dollars for this program.
Florence was deeply committed to her community. She and her husband were instrumental in the arrangements for the performers with the Lansdale Community Concerts and were active in building the membership of the Community Concert Association each year. Her dedication extended to serving as the minority clerk of elections in Chalfont, PA. Florence's love of baking and cooking brought joy to her family, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations.
Above all, Florence's greatest achievement was raising her three sons and watching them grow into wonderful men who, in turn, raised loving families of their own. Florence was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Surviving with her husband are their sons Garry Reid, husband of Terri, Jeffrey Reid, husband of Lisa Lupinacci, and Charles Reid, husband of Donna; siblings Shirley Padbury, wife of William, and Patricia Garr, wife of James; grandchildren Laura Vollobrecht, wife of Rob, Julia Steiger, wife of Shane, Christin Desantis, wife of Nathan, Dr. Meaghan Reid D.O., Alyse Veit, wife of Kyle, Kaitlyn Vogelheim, wife of Ryan, Thomas Raid, and Michael Reid; and great grandchildren Kinsey, Arden, Olivia, Sophia, Emelia, Hadley, Samuel, and Molly. Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her siblings Frank Arrow, Dorothy Scarpello, Alexander Arrow Jr., and Joan Crowthers.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Brittany Pointe, with special appreciation to the staff at Oakbridge Terrace and the ACTS hospice team. We are forever grateful for the care and compassion shown to Florence during her final days.
Florence A. Reid's life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and a spirit of service. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
