Merritt L. Silcox - Class Of 1945
Merritt Lewis Silcox August 11, 1927 - August 30, 2024. Merritt passed away on the morning of August 30th , 2024, at the age of 97. Merritt was a Bensalem High School Class of 1945 graduate who enlisted immediately in the United States Navy after graduation, serving proudly on the USS TARAWA CV-40 towards the end of the second World War. After leaving the Navy Merritt owned and operated Silcox Contractors of Bensalem from 1948 until well into the 21st Century. Merritt had a love of all things sports in High School and beyond even playing on the USS TARAWA baseball team (Ole #3). managing the SILCOX CONTRACTORS in the Bensalem Adult Softball League (1957 Champions) and being an Eagles season ticket holder for 50 - years. Growing up on Washington Lane with his five brothers (Ellwood, Roy, Earl, Arthur and Gerald) Merritt spent most of his life in Bensalem until moving to Port Saint Lucie Florida several years ago. He is survived by his three sons Merritt “Larry” Lawrence Silcox of Langhorne Pennsylvania (Bensalem High School Class of 1972) and his wife Bertha, Charles Alan Silcox of Lincoln University Pennsylvania (Bensalem High School Class of 1975) and his wife Jacki and Jeffrey Paul Silcox of Doylestown Pennsylvania (Bensalem High School Class of 1978) and his wife JoAnn. Merritt also is survived by four grandchildren Russell, Diane, Emily and Sarah as well as 5 great grandchildren. Services and burial will be held at a later date.
