Edward Tinsman Jr. of Bensalem died Tuesday, Oct 12, 2010. He was 80.

He was a lifelong resident of Bensalem.

After graduating from Bensalem High School in 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and would spend 16 months overseas in Korea during the Korean War, fighting from Pusan, South Korea, to the Yalu River bordering North Korea and China and back. He was honorably discharged at the rank of staff sergeant. Upon returning home he continued to serve his country proudly as a life member of the John Billington Veterans of Foriegn Wars Post 6495, member of the American Legion Post 0834, and Chapter 114 of the Korean War Veterans. During his time as a member of the John Billington Veterans Foriegn Wars Post 6495, he was commander from 2006 to 2007. He ended his years at the Post by being senoir vice commander from 2003 to the present. He was also captain of the honor guard with the John Billington VFW Post 6495.

He coached baseball at the Ramblers organization for a number of years.

He was the influencing figure in the renaming of the New Rodgers Road to Veterans Highway. He wanted to give back to his fellow veterans no matter what war of conflict they served in or when they served. He also helped in bringing a Veterans Cemetery to Washington Crossing.

He was the son of the late Edward and Lillian (Hewitt) Tinsman, and brother of the late Kathryn and the late John. He also was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jenna.

Edward is survived by his wife Shirley (Roberts) of 49 years; sons, David of Levittown, Scott of Bensalem, Eddie (Debbie) of Riverside, N.J., Randall of Croydon and one daughter, Terry Lee Clemens (Michael); one sister, Lillian Fries (Edward) of Lake City, Fla., and a brother George; grandchildren, Crystal, James, Heather, Jessica, David, Edward, Elizabeth, Scotlyn, T.J., Nicole, Cassandra and Alayana; two great-grandchildren, Maddie Lee and Tristan; many nieces, nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Tomlinson Funeral Home, 2207 Bristol Pike, Bensalem, and from 9 a.m. until the service at 10 a.m. Monday at funeral home. Interment will be in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.

Donations in Edward's name may be made to the John Billington VFW Post 6495, 1605 Haines Road, Levittown, PA 19055.

R.I.P.  MY CONDOLENCES TO YOUR FAMILY. Ijust want to thank him for serving his country with honor. I personally didnt know him, but went to school with his grandson Edward, R.I.P.

From the viewpoint of someone who taught his son all school day for two years, Mr. Ed Tinsman was a very good father. To say Randy was a challenging son/student those middle school years would be but polite. I would need only remind him of Dad's first new truck which I hope some day the two of them were able to smile about. More than anything my wish is that Randy grew to know and respect the father I knew and the love he had for his entire family.
