It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susann Marie Gibbs, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many, who departed this world on Tuesday, December 31st, 2024, at the age of 89. Susann's journey began in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was born on Wednesday, May 22nd, 1935, to Wilford and Susanna Hopely.

Susann was a long time resident of Andalusia PA, Bensalem PA, Mt Dora FL, and finally living the last year and half of her life in Pasadena, MD.

Susann pursued higher education at East Stroudsburg State Teachers College, where she not only earned her Bachelor’s degree and also met the love of her life, Tyke. The two were joined in holy matrimony on August 3, 1957, embarking on a lifetime journey filled with love and laughter.

Susann dedicated 34 years of her life to nurturing young minds as a teacher, leaving a lasting impact on countless students. Her passion for teaching was matched only by her involvement and enthusiasm within her community, including her beloved Red Hats.

Susann had a flair for life that extended beyond the classroom walls. She found joy in knitting, playing Bridge, embarking on cruises, and ice cream. A lover of detective shows such as "Murder She Wrote" and a fan of Charlie Chan movies, Susann cherished moments of relaxation and entertainment. Her sense of humor, cheerful demeanor, and ability to embrace life’s surprises with a smile made her an uplifting presence to those around her.

Family was the cornerstone of Susann’s life. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Gibbs (Torgunn), and her daughter, Leslie Smith, who will continue to cherish the many lessons and memories she left behind. Her legacy also includes her adored grandchildren: Ryan (Stephanie), Elizabeth (Jordan), Kirsten (Ryan), Michael (Kensy), Harrison (Brynne), Catherine, Samson (Carla), Nicholas, Alex, Zachary, and Kirstin. Her precious great-grandchildren: Daniel, Trace, Emma, Brynn, Jolene, Maximus, and Auden. Susann took immense pleasure in watching her great-grandchildren play sports.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lester "Tyke" Bruce Gibbs (married 66 years), their cherished daughter, Stacy Saturno, her sister, Dolores Fleming, and her parents, Wilford and Susanna Hopely.

Susann’s warmth and laughter will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her presence was a testament to a life well-lived, filled with love, joy, and generosity.

May her soul find peace, and may her memory be a blessing to those she has left behind.
