Robert Woodring: MEMORIAL SERVICE PLANNED FOR FISHERMAN LOST AT SEA

A memorial service for a Tuckerton man who disappeared at sea while fishing last Saturday will be held Sunday at the Cedar Run Assembly of God Church in Stafford Township, according to the Rev. James Occhipinti, pastor of the church.

Robert Woodring, 68, went out in his 22-foot vessel Saturday morning and never returned. Rescuers found the boat empty in the ocean approximately three miles off Barnegat Township, but Woodring was not aboard. The U.S. Coast Guard suspended the search Sunday morning, as the chances of finding him alive slimmed. Earlier this week, his son, Robert Woodring Jr., said he guessed that something caused his father to fall off the boat, but he was unable to climb back aboard.

The service will be held at 6 p.m. at the church, which is located on Route 9 about a mile south of the Route 72 intersection, Occhipinti said.

Woodring worked for a chemical company for 38 years and was an avid fisherman, according to Occhipinti. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Woodring, his sons, Keith Jackson and Robert Woodring Jr., his daughter, Nicole Capone, his brother, Ron "Smokey" Woodring, and his sister, Doris Hackett. He also is survived by seven grandchildren.
