Robert "Bob" W. Filer

Robert “Bob” W. Filer, of Newtown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 2, 2024. He was 82 years old. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Jennifer Gorzo and his children: Alan Filer (Michelle Anderson), Jenny Filer (Menahem Doura), Jeremy Gorzo, grandson Zachary Filer and his brother, Steve Filer (Sonja Filer). He is predeceased by his parents, William and Alice Filer, and his brother, Alan Filer.

Bob was a lifelong dedicated musician and lover of jazz music, who played the saxophone, along with many other reed instruments. He played for three years in the U.S. Army Jazz Band and went on to play gigs with multiple bands. Most notably, Bob assembled and led the Newtown Jazz Quartet.  As a respected local musician, Bob taught saxophone to aspiring young musicians and other music lovers.  In addition, due to his passion for music he owned and operated a piano repair, maintenance, and rebuilding company for over 50 years.

Bob connected with many, grew strong bonds and showed affection through teasing and his fun-loving nature.  He loved gathering with family and friends over food and spirits, weekly golf outings, and playing cards, which were typically very lively.
