Johnny Stump was my Godparent's son and my brother Jerry Wright's good friend in Bensalem. He moved to California upon college graduation and was an excellent businessman in property and real estate as well as a school teacher. Johnny had followed in his parents' footsteps when becoming a teacher; he was the son of Iona and Lester Stump. Many people might remember Iona from 5th grade in Andalusia. Even John had her as a teacher. John's son Nathan lives in California and has become a teacher as well - three generations of school teachers.

John wrestled at Bensalem and was known as "Stumpy" because of his last name and short height.

I thought of John as my second brother and always admired his quick thinking and courage to take risks. He could do just about anything and was never afraid.

I miss him.

John, Chip Murphy and I lived in Andalusia and would hang out together. Growing up, John and I were next door neighbors. In high school, while we did not always do the same things together and our professions took us in different directions, I always have great memories of Stumpy. I last saw him in California about 10 years ago and we had a good time reminiscing of the "old" days.

I dated John several times. He took me to see Gone with the Wind at the Andalusia Drive In.
It was too long. He was a very nice guy. Yes, I had his mom as my 5th grade teacher. His Dad was teaching 6th graders in the high School when we were there. It is nice to hear he became a teacher also.

I remember Johnny as a sweet careing guy and I also had his Mother for a teacher -- I always wondered how it was to have your Mom as your teacher, I guess you couldn't tell her you didn't have homework, she knew different -- Even though we all graduated in (60) and really haven't seen each other, the memories are still there and you will be missed, God Bless, Carol Gordon Cooke (60)
