Donald Aikens

Obituary

Donald “Don” Aikens loving son of Samuel and Dorothy (nee: Lefferts) Aikens passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at the age of 80.  He left behind his beloved wife of 53 years Rachel (nee DiMaio) Aikens, his son Walter R. Aikens, his daughter Lori Ann Aikens, and her fiancé Jeremy.  He also left behind 3 grandchildren Amber, Brandon, and Austin.  Don was self-employed for 50 years at Don’s Seat Covers in Bristol, PA.  Don also loved going to Annapolis, MD so much so that he and Rachel had eloped on May 8, 1970, and went there for many anniversaries thereafter.  He had a passion for photography.  He was a freelance photographer for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Bristol Pilot.  One of his most memorable moments was “shooting” for the Miss. America Pageant in Atlantic City.  Don was a familiar face all around Bristol.  He will be deeply missed by his family.

Family and friends are invited to gather Wednesday, May 17, 2023, from 10 - 12 pm at the Galzerano Funeral Home, 3500 Bristol – Oxford Valley Road, Levittown, PA 19057. Funeral service will begin at 12 pm. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Shirley Anne Neitzel (Lefferts) (1964)

Don was a very nice, caring person and was my husband's cousin. We had many fun family get-togethers with Don and Rachel and their family over the years. Don was also the wedding photographer for one of our daughters. Don was the brother of the late Bob Aikens (class of 1958) and is survived by a sister Gloria Decker (class of 1955). Don will be greatly missed.
