Michael Henry Fleming was born to parents Ernest Harry Fleming, Sr. and Margaret Delores Fleming on December 11, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He passed away on December 11, 2021. He attended Elementary and Junior High school in Germantown (Philadelphia), Pennsylvania and High School in Bensalem, Pennsylvania and graduated with a bachelor's in fine arts from Temple University in 1965 and received his Master of Education in 1968. He symbolized his dedication by water baptism as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1966 and has served as a ministerial servant and elder in Hollis Congregation. He is preceded in death by his father, Ernest Harry Fleming Sr., Grandparents: Helen & Walter Grooms and aunts, Shirley Grooms and Russell Smith. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother Margaret Fleming [Tampa, Florida], brothers, Ernest Harry Fleming, Jr. (Ruth) [Atlanta, Georgia], Clinton Richard Fleming (Charmayne) [Piscataway, New Jersey], Robert Sherwood Fleming (Aline) [Los Angeles, California], nieces Lynise Fleming-Jackson (Hanif) [Portland, Oregon], Jennifer Fleming Boykin (Jovan) [Bridgewater, New Jersey], Stacey Fleming Price (Tony) [Atlanta, Georgia], nephews, Ernest Mario Fleming and Jameson Bryce Boykin, a host of cousins including Carol Heggie Hall, Aletha Heggie, Warrenita Tibbs and many dear friends. About Michael: Michael was a world class traveler and traversed many continents. He spoke French fluently and enjoyed European travel. His last trip was with Robert, Aline and nephew, Ernest in 2018. Michael was truly a family man. He spent time with his brothers, their wives and children regularly and catered to his nieces and nephews. He was front and center at their special events: recitals, graduations and weddings and encouraged their interests, hobbies and education. He flew across the county to visit extended family and stayed in touch by regular phone calls, especially to infirmed relatives. He was also the family historian. He loved to research details about the past and connect with family at reunions in the earlier years. He kept collections of old family photos and seemed to know all the stories about each person and their children. He also collected music, sculptures and autobiographical books. Michael graduated from Temple University with a continued love of art. He painted a collection of beautiful stills, abstracts and contemporary pieces. He taught art in NYC public schools and eventually became Assistant Principal at P.S. 212 until his retirement in 1998. In 1994, Michael had the rare privilege of working a summer at Bethel as a commuter volunteer. Another first was engaging in Public Witnessing in Times Square. Although Michael’s spiritual career began in Pennsylvania, he spent most of his spiritual life in the Hollis Congregation in Queens, New York from 1967 to 2003. He spent the last 18 years in Manhattan, New York at the Westside Congregation where Michael formed close personal bonds with many. He will be missed especially by those who came to know his matter-of-fact humor, his demonstrative conviction and his love for people.
