William's Obituary

William Harold Heller, Sr.  William Harold Heller, a lifelong resident of Hopewell, New Jersey, peacefully passed away at home on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82.

Bill was born in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, and was raised in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Bensalem High School in 1961.

In his early years, Bill was a well-known chef and caterer, honing his culinary craft at several prominent local establishments, including The Shore Club, Langhorne Country Club, Washington Crossing Inn, and Yardley Inn. His reputation for excellence in the kitchen and his deep love for food laid the foundation for his future as an educator.

Bill attended Temple University, where he earned his degree in education. He dedicated 36 years of his life to teaching at Bucks County Technical High School, where he led the culinary arts program. Over the years, he inspired and mentored countless aspiring chefs throughout the region. In the later years of his career, Bill found a new passion—working with young adults with developmental disabilities, teaching them food service and culinary skills to create meaningful employment opportunities in the food industry.

Bill was also widely known and respected for his over 45 years as a high school football defensive coordinator across Bucks County. His coaching journey began at Bishop Egan in 1969, where he helped lead the Eagles to a city championship. He went on to have successful tenures at Archbishop Wood, Harry S. Truman (Woodrow Wilson), Neshaminy, Central Bucks East, Central Bucks South, and Pennsbury High School. His leadership and dedication left a lasting impression on thousands of student-athletes and their families.

An avid fisherman, Bill shared his passion and deep knowledge of the Delaware River with others by running guided fishing tours. He was known for his unmatched familiarity with the river, fishing for striped bass, shad, walleye, and smallmouth bass. He spent countless hours exploring the best fishing spots, experimenting with different tackle and techniques, always in pursuit of the “big one.” Bill participated in the Bi-State Shad contest annually and proudly won the overall tournament in 1983. He also cherished his yearly trips to Lake Ontario, where he fished for salmon and participated in numerous ESLO and Pro-Am tournaments.

Bill is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Monika Meyer; his children, Bill Heller Jr. (Joan), Dave Heller (Holly), and Sandra Heller; and his four grandsons, David, Christopher, Chase, and Devon. He is also survived by his brothers, Alan Heller (Karen) and Bob Heller (Melissa), his sister Louise Shetzline (John), and many extended family members and dear friends.

Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to The Next Step Program,   https://tnsprograms.org/ 196 W Ashland Street, Suite 314, Doylestown, PA 18901.
