In Memory

John V. Uerkvitz - Class Of 1961

John V. Uerkvitz

John Vincent Uerkvitz

March 22, 1942 — April 18, 2026

John Vincent Uerkvitz, 84, of Coopersburg, PA, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Saturday, April 18, 2026.

Born on March 22, 1942, in Abington, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Elsie Marie (Morelli) Uerkvitz.

A graduate of Bensalem High School’s Class of 1961, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served two years overseas, then returned home in 1966, receiving an Honorable Discharge.

John began a career in early Information Technology, working as a Data Processor with a service center. He was later recruited by Bucks County Courthouse to run their mainframe computers, working his way up to the Data Processing Department Manager—a position he enjoyed until his retirement in 1998.

Outside of work, John took pleasure in a variety of interests: flounder fishing, bowling, playing on the Courthouse’s softball team until he retired, watching the Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers, enjoying sweet treats (particularly a Tastykake or Dairy Queen ice cream), spending time at Wildwood Crest with family, and traveling to warmer climates like the Bahamas or Bermuda. In his retirement, he became an avid landscaper, transforming the property around his home. Above all, though, his greatest joy was spending time with his family—coaching his daughters in softball and later hosting Movie Night with PopPop, which was always well-stocked with a range of sugary snacks.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter: Cindy Atherholt, who tragically passed away on December 4, 2024.

John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-eight years: Sharon Louise (Parris) Uerkvitz, to whom he wed on June 24, 1967; daughters: Holly Palmer (Josh) and Randy Curtis (Kenny); grandchildren: Kendra, Johnathan, Noah, River, Willow, Alexa, and Cole; great-grandchildren: Landon and Owen; sister: Tina Sexton; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made—in John’s memory—to St. Luke’s Hospice.

Arrangements are in the care of the C.R. Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., Quakertown.

So sorry to hear of John's passing. He was a great friend for all of our Bensalem years. We had so much fun with both the sports and fishing trips. I will always remember when we lined up alphabetically for class activities we were always close together in the line. His Ford Crown Victoria was my ticket to school for most of our Senior Year. We should rejoice with his family for a life well lived.

John was a great friend/buddy throughout our HS and pre-'nam years. Not just for me but for a group of us who participated in a variety of varsity sports with one another. At one time or another we fished (Jersey shore, Delaware river, World's End State Park), bowled (Blvd, Cornwells Hghts and the Bristol lanes), practiced, (football, baseball and B-ball), double dated occasionally and, post HS, picnicked pridefully together with our families.

Four of us heading to the Blvd lanes one day, John driving, when he decided to visit his uncle who was a barber. To get a quick haircut. His uncle insisted we could not leave until we all had our hair cut. Don't recall how it started, but two or three of us would sometimes end up at John's Nottingham home after dropping our dates off. His mom and dad were great hosts providing various refreshments while we kibitzed with his dad who was alwas enjoying a particular classic movie. It became a routine. John's gardening skills came from his dad who kept an impeccable yard as most Nottingham families did having migrated from Phiily.

He and Sharon raised a wonder family. Judy and my condolences to them.
