Joseph McLaughlin

Joseph Patrick McLaughlin

Saturday, April 7th, 1945 - Monday, July 31st, 2023

Joseph Patrick McLaughlin was a 1963 graduate of Bensalem high school and a life long resident of Langhorne. He passed away peacefully on July 31, 2023, just two short months after his wife Judy, at Ann’s Choice. He was 78.

Joe spent his life as professional news photographer. He got his start in the Navy, where he worked on two separate air craft carriers, the USS Saratoga and the USS Constellation. He looked back fondly on those days and was always proud of his service. He worked for the Philadelphia Bulletin as a press photographer from 1969 until it closed in 1982. There he had an exciting career following Philadelphia sports, the Mafia and doing numerous celebrity interviews. One of the highlights of his career at the Bulletin, was covering the entire 1980 Philadelphia Phillies season, traveling with them to Spring Training, covering them at Veterans Stadium and traveling with them through their World Series win. After the Bulletin closed, Joe became the Director of Photography at the Home News Tribune in New Brunswick, NJ. He continued to be right in the center of the action, earning many awards for his work. When he wasn’t behind the camera, what Joe enjoyed the most, was his pool. He spent every day of the summer taking meticulous care of it and enjoyed every visitor that came by for a dip. Family was his passion.

Joseph was proceeded in death by his wife of 57 years, and the love of his life, Judy McLaughlin, his parents, Isabelle and Joseph McLaughlin, and his sister Eileen MacAdams. Joseph is survived by his brother, Gary McLaughlin.
Joseph will be greatly missed by his children Michael McLaughlin ( Angie), Jennifer Anderson ( Mike) and Amy Schoenleber ( Mike) and by his beloved grand children Daniel, Jack, Allison, Alex, Harrison, Magdalena and his seventh grandson, Thelonious, coming in August. He will also be greatly missed by Ken Hinchey, Nora McLaughlin and John and Kelly McLaughlin as well as many special nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Friends and family are welcome to attend his Visitation at the Tomlinson Funeral Home, 2207 Bristol Pike, Bensalem, Pa 19020 on Tuesday, August 8th from 12:00-1:00 PM followed by his Service at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place at Washington Crossing National Cemetery
