In Memory
William Joseph Mahoney II, age 78, of Palm City, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. Bill had a rare form of cancer which he was determined to beat. He fought a long, hard battle and is one of the longest survivors of the disease. A wonderful son, brother, husband, father, pa-pa, and friend. Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty (nee Mullen), his two children, Kelly and Bill (Jessica), three grandchildren, Hayden, Remington and Ruby, and many extended family members. Bill was born November 11, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA where he grew up until age 11 when he and his family moved to Cornwall Heights, PA. Bill attended Bensalem High School where he started running track and field and made the Hall of Fame. Bill received a four year scholarship from Temple University where he made All American two years in a row. Bill served in the Army for two years. He had orders to go to Vietnam but was saved by the Army Track Team. After Bill's time in the service, he returned to Temple to get his master's degree in business which landed him a career at 3M. Bill was an Executive Director with 3M for 33 years. His career gave him and his family the opportunity to travel all over the world as they moved to Minnesota, Texas, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Brussels, Belgium. Bill and Betty retired in Palm City, FL in 2005. They loved fishing and boating and were active members of the Grady White Boating group. Bill served as commodore for the group for five years. They had a great life crossing over the Bahamas with all of the wonderful people in their group.

Bill was a true gentleman and a very polite, nice person. We went through school together. Because of our last names and the alphabetical seating, we were placed near each other in homerooms and classes that we were in together. We chit-chatted back then, but I hadn't seen him since we graduated. When the Bensalem Alumni Site was formed, we reconnected when he contacted me through the site and asked me to name the people in the group photo taken at our Reunion in Atlantic City. He wanted to see if he was correct with his guess about who was in the photo. We chit-chatted a little, and he indicated he and his wife, Betty, lived in Florida and were enjoying retirement. He was a boating enthusiast, as was my late father. Both had been heads of boating groups. We talked about living in Florida versus Pennsylvania and the hurricane seasons, and how he and Betty were always prepared. Back in school, many of us attended local dances, including those in the Philadelphia area - St. Tim's and the roller rink, among others. He mentioned he had met his wife at one of those dances. Bill posted back and forth with many of his friends on The Message Board. He even posted a photo of himself and Betty during a dance at their wedding. Many enjoyed his posts about growing up in Bensalem, sports, and other events. He never forgot his roots and the friends he had made over the years. He will be deeply missed. My condolences go out to Betty and the rest of Bill's family and friends.

Sorry to hear of this loss. Bill and I were good friends in high school. I took him on his first fishing trip at the Neshaminy Creek. He caught a big cat fish. We both ran on the cross-country team. He was varsity and I was JV. Bill surprised everyone with his exceptional running abilities. Goodbye my friend. The world has lost a good man.
