Obituary for Mahlon Roy Fuller
Mahlon Roy Fuller, 78, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2025, of natural causes.
Born in Philadelphia on January 27, 1947, Mal was raised by his late parents, Myrle and E. Ellis Fuller, alongside his younger sister, Francee, who predeceased him. From an early age, Mal’s sharp mind and curiosity were evident, traits that stayed with him throughout his life.
As a young man, Mal served in the United States Air Force, where he learned air traffic control - a skill that would become his lifelong career. Intelligent and quick-thinking, he excelled in a field that demanded precision, calm under pressure, and clear communication. He was a highly respected leader among his colleagues, with many of the younger controllers considering him their mentor, a role he filled naturally. He was also a gifted speaker, able to explain complex ideas with ease, often captivating a room whether he was telling a story, giving a speech, or delivering one of his well-timed (often inappropriate) remarks.
Mal was married for 55 years to the love of his life, Christine, until her passing last spring. They shared a deep love, shared beliefs, and a full life shaped by years of traveling together. Her absence was deeply felt.
In the later years of his life, Mal bravely battled Parkinson’s disease, which took the man his family and friends loved well before he left this earth. Still, that is not his legacy. He will be remembered for the decades of laughter, intelligence, strength, generosity, and an unmistakable personality that defined him long before illness entered the picture.
A self-described “miscreant,” Mal delighted in surprising others with his unique sense of humor, always hoping to get a rise out of people with an unexpected comment or joke. His humor was mischievous, but his heart was big. Through his work with organizations such as Hospice of Lancaster County and Friends of Flight 93, Mal gave his time and energy to helping and lifting others up. He was truly one of a kind - they broke the mold when they made Mal.
He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Horst (Ronald) and Elizabeth Szollose (Jon); his grandchildren, Connor Horst, Tanner Horst, Chase Szollose, Peyton Brown, and Leah Szollose; his brother-in-law, Scott Stoneback; his sister-in-law, Nanette Lutz; as well as several nephews and a niece.
Mal will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his wit, wisdom, and the distinctive presence he brought to the lives of those who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Roosevelt Room at the Health Care Center of Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, 600 Freemason Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of Lancaster County, per Mal’s wishes.

I am so sorry to hear of Mahlon's and Christine"s passing. We were classmates from elementary school. Two very fine folks.
