Edward Urban Obituary

Edward “Ed” J. Urban of Carolina Shores, North Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 20, 2026, at the age of 77. He was born on November 29, 1948, in Trevose, Pennsylvania.

He was a proud veteran who served his country in the United States Navy after high school from 1968- 1973. He served on the USS Forrestal as a “yellow shirt” on the flight deck. He later obtained an associate degree followed by a thirty-year career at Philadelphia Electric Company, (PECO). He was a dedicated son, brother, husband, uncle, father, and grandfather who had a strong sense of love for his family. He was a devoted Philadelphia Flyers fan and a season ticket holder since 1968. He shared his love of the game in the city of brotherly love behind the glass, rink side, with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed camping with his wife Diane and close friends and looked

forward to the annual hunting trips at his camp in Rockledge. He took pleasure in reminiscing about the years he spent on the green working and golfing at Buck Hill Falls in the Pocono Mountains. For over a decade he served on the executive board and volunteered in the kitchen at the American Legion Post 503 in Calabash, NC where him and his wife are valued members. He truly loved to cook. He was a quiet man who was quick witted and often joked about only liking three people and a cold one. If you had the pleasure of sitting on a stool next to him, you quickly realized that Ed cherished the many laughs he shared with friends and fellow veterans who he called family.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Edward Urban, his mother, Mary (Hartley) Pollock, his sisters, Barbara (Urban) Smith and Regina (Urban) Cundey and brother, Paul Urban. Ed is survived by his loving wife, Diane Urban, and his siblings, Bernadette (Urban) Frey, (Mark), and Cathy (Urban) Demi, (Jack). Daughter Betsey (Urban) Skitsko, (Brian), and his son Eddie Urban. His stepchildren Jody Boushell (Jason), Ryan Setzer (Amy) and many nieces and nephews. Ed’s grandchildren brought him immense joy and pride. He was a constant presence in their lives. Nicholas, Gage, Brandon, Samantha, Riley, Connor, Carson, and Maggie all called him the best “Pop” in the world. Ed’s legacy will live on through his family as they continue to emulate his values and his love and care of others.

A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion Post 503 in Calabash, North Carolina on June 20, 2026, at 2pm. A ceremony will be held at his final resting place at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA. Date to be determined.
