In Memory

William Lutz - Class Of 1971

William Lutz

William John Lutz, affectionately known as Bill, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, at the age of 71. He was born in Philadelphia on August 24, 1953, and raised in Bensalem, Pennsylvania in a home filled with faith and music nurtured by his parents, John and Myra Lutz. Singing together in church became a cherished family tradition that shaped Bill’s lifelong devotion to music and his spiritual journey.

Bill pursued higher education at Penn State University and Drexel University, earning an undergraduate degree in accounting and an MBA respectively. This lead to a successful career as an accountant. His love of vast and color-coded spreadsheets was a common source of amusement and frustration for his family.

That is - until it came to planning vacations.  Bill used his spreadsheet acumen to plan many exciting and rewarding adventures.  Bill and Nanette shared an interest in travel and they loved to explore different cultures, climes and foods.  Their most recent journeys included Egypt, Machu Picchu, the Galapagos Islands and the Amazon Rainforest.

A lifelong Penn State football fan, Bill’s enthusiasm for the team was unwavering. One of his final joys was attending a Penn State game with his son—a fitting tribute to a passion that brought him so much happiness throughout his life.

Bill remained steadfast in his faith and shared his passion for music through active participation in numerous church and community choral and handbell choirs.   He was a gifted baritone singer and a skilled handbell ringer.

Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who found immense joy in his family. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 47 years, Nanette Lutz; his cherished children, Matthew Lutz and Jessica Lutz Arnold; his daughter-in-law Natalie Nardo Lutz; his son-in-law Cody Arnold; his four treasured grandchildren: Jackson, Viviana, Sophie, and Greyson; and two nieces, Jennifer Horst and Elizabeth Szollose. Bill logged countless hours watching or coaching as his children played sports or performed in concerts and plays.   He also endured a great many seemingly endless dance recitals - always held on Father's Day. Bill wouldn't have had it any other way: his family was the foundation of his happiness and pride.

Bill’s love of family, enduring faith, and passion for music left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His memory will continue to inspire those blessed by his presence. May he sing a new song in heaven.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 4 at St. John's United Methodist Church, 820 Almshouse Road, Ivyland, PA 18974, at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are invited to greet Bill’s family from 10:00am, until the start of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Levi Lamb Fund at Penn State University: The Office of Annual Giving, 329 Innovation Boulevard; Suite 210 in State College, PA 16803; or online at https://gopsusports.com/levi-lamb-fund, to benefit student athletes.
