Shelli Rae Carrington

Bensalem Class of ‘87

Shelli Rae Carrington, of Chesapeake, VA, died on December 29, 2018. She was born on September 25, 1969 in Bristol, PA to James and Beverly Carrington, who preceded her in death. She bravely fought Stage IV breast cancer for more than three years.

Shelli is survived by her three children Daiyaan S. Cola (age 24), Sahiraah N. Cola (age 20), and Javier P. Cola (age 11), and her brother James Albert Carrington, Jr., his wife and children.

Shelli graduated from Bensalem High School (Bensalem, PA). She received a Bachelors Degree from Shippensburg University (Shippensburg, PA) and a Masters Degree from Cambridge College (Chesapeake, VA).

Until her illness left her disabled, Shelli loved her position as an Elementary Education teacher for Hampton Roads YMCA. She was a member of the Hampton Roads Eastern Stars. She loved music and art.

Shelli was a beloved member of Vertical Church in Chesapeake, VA, where she served on the Kids and VIP teams.

Vertical Church will host a public memorial service at Broadcast Church (910 Oak Grove RD, Chesapeake) on Friday, January 11. The family will receive friends from 6-7pm. The service will begin at 7pm. Lead Pastors Brian Owens and Josh Butcher will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Shelli Carrington Memorial Fund, ℅ Vertical Church (PO Box 15566, Chesapeake, VA 23328 or www.verticalchurch.tv). All proceeds from the fund will be used to further support her children during this transition.
