Remembering Chris Jones
Chris Jones was killed when a car struck his police cruiser on the Route 1 Superhighway pinning him beneath it.
Ninety minutes after the accident, his wife, Suzanne Jones made the decision to donate Chris' organs for transplant. And about 24 hours later one of Chris Jones' kidneys was being transplanted into Ron Crawford, a member of the Jones' "military family."
Crawford is recovering and doing well after the surgery in Memphis, Tenn.
The Crawford and the Jones families had grown close during the men's time aboard the USS Kitty Hawk
His son played soccer with my nephew and he remembers Chris would go to the soccer games at Hoover and light up his squad car and sound the sirins for the kids. They loved that.
The Police Officer's Prayer
to St. Michael
Police Officer's Prayer to St. Michael
Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police,
who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises
of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional
eyes on your earthly force.
Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for
investigation and wise judgement.
Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and
law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores,
strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.
You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences
with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not
always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so
pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the
devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.
And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your
heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the
throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all
the people. Amen.
A POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER
Lord I ask for courage
Courage to face and
Conquer my own fears...
Courage to take me
Where others will not go...
I ask for strength
Strength of body to protect others
And strength of spirit to lead others...
I ask for dedication
Dedication to my job, to do it well
Dedication to my community
To keep it safe...
Give me Lord, concern
For others who trust me
And compassion for those who need me...
And please Lord
Through it all
Be at my side...

A sad day for Middletown Township and the Bensalem Communityu
Scott C. Fellows (1989)
I first met Chris when we both got part time jobs at Franks Nursery and Crafts on Street Road (no longer there) as "general clerks." I had seen him from time to time at school but had never spoken to him before. The first thing I remember thinking about Chris when I first heard him speak was that his deep but raspy voice should not be coming out of this skinny kid. Soon after we became good friends and we had some pretty fun times there. I remember him telling me that he always wanted to be a cop and I was happy to learn that he made that dream true in the Navy. He and his lovely wife came out to Vegas once on a short vacation and my wife and I were lucky enough to see them there for a short time. I lost touch with Chris over time and I truly regret not finding him again. I was shocked to find out about his tragic passing and I hope his family is doing well. I am glad he was able to achieve his dream and our prayers and thoughts are with your family. I really miss hanging out with him.Melisa Ann Hornickel (Batot) (1986)
I did not know Chris in high school but came to know him and become very good friends with him in 2008 while he was a Police Officer. He was one of the most kind and humane people i have ever met. He was fair to everyone, guilty or not and always kept a level head; he usually had to settle my temper down at work!! He was a gentle soul who talked about his children on many occasions and how much he loved them. I will truely miss him every day.
Rest in Peace Chris.
