Joshua John "Mustang" Young
Joshua John Young, 50 of Oak Grove MN, passed away surrounded by loved ones on August 30, 2024.
Born January 29th 1974, in Bristol PA, Josh was the son of Robert Young (Cindy) and Linda Preibe.
Josh was a proud and devoted father to his cherished sons Sean Michael and Donovan Robert. Josh is
also survived by his brother Matthew Young (Courtney), sisters Erin Young and Megan Young as well as
nephew Luke Young and nieces Margarita Gonzalez and Camryn Young. Josh is predeceased by
grandparents Josh James Young and Inez Hikda Prater as well as his niece Yvette Gonzalez.
Before graduating from Bensalem High School in 1992, he enlisted in the United States Army, continuing
his grandfather’s and father’s legacy. During Josh’s Army career he served in Mogadishu during the
Blackhawk Down episode. His experience through this time led to a lifelong brotherhood very dear to
Josh, his Somalia Battle Brothers.
Following his military service, Josh joined the Minneapolis Police department where his storied career
earned recognition including a Lifesaving Award and a Medal of Commendation. While serving as
Officer Josh deployed to Iraq for a year with the 151st Field Artillery of the Minnesota National Guard.
Upon returning to the police force he was promoted to Lieutenant. During these years Josh also earned
his bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s University as well as a master’s with Arizona State University.
Throughout his career Josh was known for his leadership, integrity and commitment to protecting others.
In addition to time spent with his sons, in retirement Josh delighted in riding his motorcycle and serving
the Viet Nam Vets Legacy Vets MC. Within this organization he forged incredible bonds with men he
would eventually call his brothers. Josh was a devoted supporter and volunteer within the veteran
community and generously gave of himself to those in need.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Immanuel Church of Forest Lake in
Forest Lake MN. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM with service beginning promptly at 3:00 PM. Dress of
black jeans is welcomed. Burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with military honors will occur at a
future date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to save Veterans lives is preferred.

Josh will be remembered for his courage, unwavering call to duty, sense of humor and deep love for his
family and community. His legacy of service and sacrifice will continue to inspire all who know him. Josh
will forever be his family's favorite hero and through us his legacy lives on in the stories we will tell.
