Louis R. CooperSend Flowers & Gifts

Louis R. Cooper, of New Hope, PA, and Fort Myers, FL, died on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was 83.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geraldine Zimmerman Cooper; son, Louis R. Cooper, Jr.; son-in-law, Stephen P. Doughty; and brother, David J. Cooper. Born in Philadelphia and raised in lower Bucks County, he was the son of the late Louis E. Cooper and Helen D. Harbetz Cooper.

He is survived by his three daughters, Teresa Joan Maginnis and her husband, Paul, of Lafayette Hill, PA; Vicki Ann Cooper-Doughty of New Hope, PA; Nancy Lee Williamson and her husband, Matt, of Lafayette Hill, PA; his daughter-in-law, Jami Cooper, of Upper Black Eddy, PA; and his sister, Helen Parillo, of Levittown, PA. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Lou attended high school at Bensalem before moving to Neshaminy High School his senior year, where he always had a large circle of friends. Through these friends, he met Geraldine Zimmerman, who became his partner in love, life, and business. During high school, he worked at a plumbing supply warehouse and began learning the plumbing trade. He soon became a skilled plumber and joined Plumbers Union Local 690. In 1976, he and Gerry moved their family to Ottsville, PA, and began Cooper Plumbing and Heating. Through hard work and a team of loyal and talented employees, the business grew from a small desk in his kitchen to its current home on Route 611. Lou was known by his customers and contractors as a man of honesty and integrity.

Staying active was important to Lou, and he had many hobbies. In his younger years, he made many memories fishing with his buddies, playing darts at the local bar, or playing poker games at the kitchen tables of friends. He enjoyed challenging himself to be the best at any activity he tried. It wasn’t until his forties that he tried golf and fell in love with the game. He was golf’s greatest consumer, taking lessons and practicing technical skills each evening. In retirement, he moved to Fort Myers, FL, where he enjoyed golfing more days than not.

Lou’s greatest joy came from watching his children and grandchildren grow and flourish. Whether it was attending their sporting events, helping them with school projects, or taking them on family vacations, he loved being a constant presence in their lives.

Many will remember Lou for his strong values, reputation for hard work, or even his stubborn streak. But he will also be remembered for being a man of his word, helping those around him, and his commitment to faith, family and friends. In the game of life, Lou won.

Lou’s funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 5194 Cold Spring Creamery Rd., Doylestown, PA, where he deepened his faith in life. Family and friends are invited to gather there from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, September 5, 2025, and again on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10:00 am. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lou can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
