Derek Brook
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Derek Brook on April 24, 2026, at the age of 44.
Derek was a beloved son, brother, uncle, father and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. In recent years, he was fortunate to connect with his daughter, Brianna Brook, and valued the relationship they were building together.
He is survived by his daughter, Brianna Brook; his devoted mother, Patricia (nee Waldron) Brook; his brother, Gilbert "Gibby" (Teresa) Brook III; his sister, Tracy (nee Brook) (Robbie) Doerr; and his nieces and nephews, Gibby, Jimmy and Caitie Brook and Zoe Doerr.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert "Gibby" Brook, Jr.
When Derek was young, he loved spending time with his father, especially sharing their enjoyment of playing pool together. He also enjoyed sports from an early age, playing youth baseball and CYO football. He was a devoted Philadelphia sports fan.
Derek attended Saint Charles Borromeo Grade School and Bensalem High School before earning his GED. He had a strong interest in history, especially World War II, and was known for his impressive knowledge of its battles and events. He also enjoyed watching game shows, often answering questions with ease, and loved spending evenings watching Antiques Roadshow while sharing dinner with his mother.
Later in life, Derek faced personal struggles, including challenges with addiction and time spent away from those he loved. While these hardships were part of his journey, they never defined the caring and compassionate person he remained at heart. Despite his struggles, Derek loved his family deeply, even when he was not always able to show it.
Most of all, Derek will be remembered for his kind and generous heart. He had compassion for others, especially the elderly and those experiencing hardship, and was always willing to share what little he had with someone in need.
Derek leaves behind many memories that will be treasured by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his humor, caring nature, and his big heart. May he rest in peace.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet his family on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the T.J. Fluehr Funeral Home, 11010 Knights Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154, followed by his memorial Service at 7:00 PM. Interment private.
